Friends Always – ScrapMuch? Sketch-y Friday Reveal

I’m in denial that this weekend it’s November already.
I’m in denial that the clocks go back Saturday night.
I’m in denial watching the thermometer dip day by day.

So with the new month beginning on Sunday, it’s time for another Team A ScrapMuch? Sketch-y Friday reveal. In keeping with usual tradition, the first layout of the month is a double pager. I’m happy to share my layout featuring my Vegas Wolfpack! These ladies are awesome. We come from all walks of life, from all over the US and I’m the lone Canadian. I’ve known one of these amazing ladies since 2007. We always have so much fun together, bound together in our common love of scrapbooking, and travel, and travel for scrapbooking. We may not be able to all get together next year and that makes me very sad.

I used a mix of Teresa Collins, Simple Stories, Heidi Swapp and Amy Tangerine products on this layout. I loved going with the black, white, and gold palette. I even added in some chipboard pieces that I put through the Minc (love that machine!) – the ampersand on the big camera embellie, and the “good times” on the photo.

Here is the sketch we had to work with this week

So now it’s your turn! Hop on over to the ScrapMuch? blog and see what the rest of Team A has created for your inspiration! Then create your own sketch inspired layout and share with us for a chance to win an awesome ScrapMuch? prize!

Have a safe and Happy Hallowe’en everyone! I’ll see you in 2 weeks with my next ScrapMuch? creation!

Plaid Tutorial for ScrapMuch?

Hi everyone! Today I’m sharing a super cool technique I learned from the awesome Paula Cheney at the Ready Set Create event in Burbank in August.  For those that don’t know, Paula is the Creative Coordinator for Tim Holtz brands.  And if you haven’t been fortunate to take a class or workshop from her, you’ll just have to trust me that she is awesome!!  I’ve been very fortunate to take a few from her over the years, even going as far back as to when she was with 7Gypsies (another one of my fav scrapbooking companies).

The technique involves making a DIY plaid technique using a Tim Holtz stencil, “Stripes”, as well as 3 Tim Holtz Distress Mini Inks of your choice. You will also need some water to spritz as well.

When we first did this technique it was with a shipping tag. This time I opted to first try it with some Ranger watercolor paper. The first step is to ink up your stencil with the minis in a random pattern. I recommend going with 2 dominant colours and one accent colour.

Then you are going to mist your stencil to make the inks bead up.

Next you need to place your stencil on the paper. I cheated and put the paper on the stencil.

Then you need to turn your stencil, or the paper horizontally.

And you will wind up with this:

I went a bit too heavy handed with the spritzing, but I definitely love the way the inks all dreamily ran together.

While I set that one to dry, I decided to try another with different colours and smooth cardstock. This time I actually did it the “right” way by moving the stencil not the paper.

You’ll see that the ink sits differently on the smooth cardstock vs the watecolour paper. The lines are also significantly more distinctive.

After some drying time, here are the 2 finished products side by each.

So now I decided to make some journaling tags, but you could definitely use this to DIY some custom backgrounds on your cardstock for layouts, or as matting for your photos. I just stamped directly on the paper.

And here is the end result:

I hope I’ve inspired you to try new techniques with your stencils and inks.  If you are looking for more inspiration with using Tim Holtz products I highly recommend following Paula Cheney‘s blog.  She is amazing!!!

Autumn – ScrapMuch? Sketch-y Friday Reveal

Hello and Happy Friday!

It’s time for another ScrapMuch? Sketch-y Friday Team A reveal! This week I opted to keep with the fall theme using the new super fab Simple Stories Pumpkin Spice line.  My photos are from this year’s visit to the Bellagio Botanical Gardens.  This year’s display did not disappoint. So without further adieu, here is my creation for this week:

Untitled// added some quilt style stitching because fall makes me think of keeping cozy. I also had a lot of fun playing with the many pieces in the collection. I actually have a few detail shots because there are some fun elements in the embellishments. I have become hooked on the amazing Wink of Stella markers, and there are 2 spots where I got to add their flair!

// that perfect hint of glitter on the lettering and on the tree trunk and branches. Here are some other detail shots. Lots of pop dotting and layering of embellishments on this layout.

So here is the sketch we had to work with this week:

Have a wonderful weekend everyone! I’ll be cropping with the ScrapMuch? gang for their annual ScrapPink fundraiser crop. I have a *lot* of projects to catch up on!

Bella’s 1st Birthday – ScrapMuch? Sketch-y Friday Reveal

Hello October. Hello Fall.

Hello first Friday of the month, which means it’s time for ScrapMuch? Team A’s double page reveal for this month. So without further adieu, I do believe it’s time to share what I created this week (and it’s pretty stinkin cute if I do say so myself!).

This layout is of yes, my sweet girl Bella’s First Birthday celebration. The entire page uses the Bella Blvd Riley collection, as well as some Bella Blvd enamel dots. I also managed to sneak in a Heidi Swapp Minc chipboard embellishment that was gifted to me by a friend at this year’s Teresa Collins Vegas event because it just worked so purrfectly! I chose to outline the letters in the title just to help them pop off the page a bit better. I’m not so sure Bella was happy about this celebration, but I’m sure she’s long forgotten it. I wonder what her wish was…

Here is the sketch we had to work with this week:

So now it’s your turn. Hop on over to the ScrapMuch? blog to see what the rest of the team has created for your inspiration this week. I hope you feel inspired enough to join in and share your creations with us. As always, when you link up you have the chance to win a fabulous ScrapMuch? prize too!
