ScrapMuch?! Sketch-y Friday – Melt My Heart

This is the reveal that almost wasn’t for me. You see, when it came time to post my layout for the team, my laptop hard drive died before I could even edit the photo. Thankfully I was able to work on DH’s laptop that still had an old version of PhotoShop Elements installed. Needless to say this week has been filled with a lot of anxiety over the hard drive, as the last 10 years of my life in photos were on that drive. Thankfully the amazing tech at IC SuperComputers was able to get me up and running in just over 24 hours including salvaging 99% of my data. HUGE SIGH OF RELIEF.  So let me be a cautionary tale to all – have 2 copies of everything!!!

So here we are!  Happy Friday! Team A is up again with another Sketch-y Friday reveal at ScrapMuch?!

Here is the sketch we had to work with this week:

And here is my take on the sketch:

Supplies used: Cardstock-American Crafts, Stampin’ UP!; Patterned Paper-Teresa Collins; Texture Paste-Martha Stewart; Stencil-Tim Holtz; Mist-Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist; Sequins-Teresa Collins; Ribbon-American Crafts; Flair-American Crafts; Die Cutting Machine-Silhouette Cameo; Pearls-Pebbles; Tab-Pink Paislee; Arrow Clip-Freckled Fawn; Stickers (banners, circle)-My Minds Eye; Circle Punch-EK Success

This week’s layout is dedicated to my very special girl, Socks. Socks is my happy. Socks came into my life some 17 years ago when I was just starting college and in my first apartment. I adopted her from the Upper Credit Humane Society as an adult cat. She was found abandoned with a litter of kittens. By the time I got to meet her, her kittens had all been adopted, and there was just Socks. A beautiful tuxedo cat, with delicate white paws, a white bib and tummy and adorable white whiskers. Giving credit where due, Mom had actually found her at the local Super Pet in their adoption area, and within the week I was there signing papers to make her mine. It’s been a match made in heaven ever since. We’ve truly been the best of friends. Doing the math, she is approx 19 years old now and doesn’t have much longer on this earth. So for now we take full advantage of every snuggle moment we get. She is always with me on the couch, and at night she sleeps on my pillow – The pic was taken one morning when I woke up to find her face next to mine. She is a chatterbox, always has been. She is the kindest, gentlest kitty ever. She’s been through some very uncomfortable procedures at the vet and never once did she get angry. She’s amazing. She’s spoiled and gets anything she wants, because at 19 years old, she deserves it, and then some. There will be other kitties in my life, but there will never be another Socks (Socksie, Socksinator, HRH Socks Rotundo).

As for the layout, it’s a lot busier than I’d normally do, but for some reason it just all worked for me. I absolutely loved this Teresa Collins line, You Are My Happy. The circles at the top were punched from one of the pieces of paper that fit my EK Success circle punch perfectly. Teresa just does some amazing things with her papers and each line just gets better and better. Have I mentioned how excited I am to be at her Inspiration Unlimited event for the third straight year in a mere 41 days??!?!?! So close! I digress.. I misted the textured hearts because I didn’t like the stark white, then spread some excess paste on the black background because the hearts otherwise looked really stark in the middle of the page.

I’d love for you to pop over to the ScrapMuch?! blog to see what the rest of the team is up to this week, and then play along with any or all of the sketches. Make sure to link up with us if you do for a chance to win a totally fab ScrapMuch?! prize! You have until August 29th at Midnight EST to link up your creations. I can’t wait to see what you create! Have an amazing weekend! 🙂

Tales From The Pole

Since I discovered some odd bruises on my legs today that I can only attribute to last week’s shenanigans, I figured I’d share their story…

Ever since we moved to Brantford, I’ve really struggled with finding my fitness niche. Before we moved I loved my gym, I loved my trainer (Hi Cindy!), I loved all the classes I’d go to that totally fit within my schedule, with just enough variety to keep me interested. I’m still yet to find a gym I love that is convenient, has classes I like, where I feel totally comfortable. I tried running. I truly hated it. I found an amazing local hot yoga studio. It closed. (Miss you Manifest and Jennie!)  I go to another one but it’s far enough away to be inconvenient, and expensive.

You can imagine my delight when Allure, a fitness club that opened in Westdale a few years ago, was opening a Brantford location, with hot yoga too. I’d admittedly always been curious to try their pole fit classes but couldn’t commit to taking their weekly workshops as a shiftworker. So, when I found an intro 2 hour workshop, I signed up! I didn’t expect it to be a cakewalk but I was admittedly surprised at how difficult (for me!) even the basics were. I’m not going to lie, I had high hopes of leaving the workshop being able to do all of this…

Instead, it was probably more like this…

I learned spins are tough yo! I found myself walking very funny the next day after using muscles that have probably never been used before. I also now have bruises on my legs I can only attribute to using them as part of my death grip on the pole in total fear of hitting the ground with an unpleasant THUD! All that being said – I had a lot of fun. I was amazed at how good this class could be for my psyche even though I really struggled with a lot of the basics. I didn’t do a good job at all. But, I’m stubborn and want to keep at it. So I will be going to another drop in class or two. I did sign up for their intro month special so I can try more pole fit, zumba and hot yoga classes and then I’ll decide if I’ll keep a monthly membership or if I go to a class pass.

Some final thoughts…  Pole fit is challenging, a great full body workout, and a lot tougher than I thought it would be. It’s a good thing I’m reasonably competent in my day job because I currently have zero future as a pole dance stripper. I am incredibly thankful there is no photo or video evidence of my lack of pole competence. See you again soon Allure Brantford.. And to my pole – I will conquer you one day…

Sun Sand Sea – ScrapMuch?! Sketch-y Friday Reveal

Hello August!

In my world, we’re now at the mid-point of summer. It feels like time is just flying by. I’m very thankful to be healthy and active this summer. However, that also means that I’ve been scrapbooking and cooking less than I did last year. I just can’t have it both ways!

It’s the first Friday of a new month, which also means it’s Team A’s turn at ScrapMuch?! And of course, that also means our sketch this week is a two pager!

Here is our inspiration sketch:

And here is my take on the sketch:

Since I have an abundance of sunny beach photos from so many vacations, I was really excited to scrapbook a summery theme. Let’s face it, in paradise it’s summer every day! It goes without saying I LOVE using my stash and having it all come together so serendipitously!

It’s a long weekend here in Ontario and I’ll be doing a mix of working and spending time with my Dad. I hope to sneak in a little crafty time too on Sunday night!

Now it’s your turn. Pop on over to ScrapMuch?! to see what the rest of the team has created. Now is a great time to visit, maybe play with this sketch, maybe give the colour challenge a try, maybe even combine both!
