While I sit at home and wait for an X-Ray requisition for follow up X-Rays on my fankle, I took the time to wrap up the layout I started on Friday after I finished all the challenges I mentally committed to for July. This one was just for fun to use up some papers I’d been hoarding (old school American Crafts Dear Lizzy that I just HAD to have! ). Since it was a mostly pink and brown palette it was easy for me to find a bunch of embellies to work with too; Maya Road suede flowers, Girls Paperie lettering, Tim Holtz tissue tape, Little Yellow Bicycle epoxy stickers, some chipboard playing cards by Memories Complete by Kolette Hall (circa 2006! – no longer in business but she has a TON of great Silhouette cut files!), American Crafts ribbon, and Stampin’ UP! crochet flower, brad, twine, cardstock.
Thankfully – it is also “Anything Goes” week at Let’s Get Sketchy so this totally works. I didn’t use a specific sketch, just some old fashioned playing with paper, simple and linear and lacking journaling (typical me). Memories of a fun 31st birthday crop with some scrappy friends and LOTS of cake! 🙂
Later this week I’ll be joining Ali Edwards in her Day In The Life for July. It’s on Wednesday the 31st if you are wanting to play along with Ali (and I!). It’s a non-physio day for me and I’ll be using it as a bit of a tool to remember what has dominated my summer so far (the fankle), and hopefully find something positive to reflect on and remember.
Looking ahead – Ali has also scheduled her Week In The Life this year for September 9-15th. I had the pleasure of doing one of these albums with Ali at CKU Nashville in August of 2007. It was a really ambitious project, and I often wondered if my day to day life was worthy of a full week and full album of documentation. Now that years have passed, I’ve really enjoyed looking back at that week, and what my week was like at the time and it will be fun to have a similar week 6 years later. Adding to the fun, that week ends when I travel to Las Vegas for Inspiration Unlimited 2013 – so it will be fun to be documenting the early days of that trip! 🙂
I’d love to know if any of you will be playing along with Ali and I on our Day and Week in the Life!
Hey everyone. I hope you’re all enjoying a great mid-summer weekend!
I spent my Friday scrapping (as evidenced by the posts). Saturday was super busy running errands. It’s kind of my current reality as I’m still not allowed to drive, so Steve drives me around on Saturdays to get things done. It’s usually a pretty welcome escape from my home/physio/home/physio/scrapbook/bake routine. Yesterday though was a bit too much, and resulted with me at home and fankle on ice and a Tylenol 3 to take the edge off the pain. I felt like it was a colossal setback. This morning I woke up feeling infinitely better! We had our fabulous routine Sunday mimosa brunch, pulled pork is cooking away in the crockpot and I’m back up in my scraproom tackling some other layout challenges while watching the first Sex And The City Movie on my laptop. Nice easy Sunday! Just what the doctor ordered (I’m not a doctor).
I’ve mentioned that I’ve gathered quite the stash of crafty stuff over my years of scrapping, and it’s becoming a bit overwhelming. In fact, I probably haven’t done any significant scrapbook shopping in easily a year. Enter Use Your Stuff. They definitely draw up some amazing challenges and I’ve wanted to play along for a while. The best part is, they’re helping me to embrace and use the old that I once loved/had to have/couldn’t part with/will definitely use at some point/saving for a special project/etc. Stop me if you’ve done any of this before. They have 2 active challenges at the moment so I started on the one that is expiring first: #93 – Ad Challenge. An ad is used as a leaping off point to inspire future creations.
Here is the ad:
And here is my subsequent all stash creation:
Patterned paper is all oldschool Stampin’ UP! from the days when we use to have a hostess club that I *had* to have, flower is old Heidi Swapp for Advantus, there’s an epoxy cleary sticker in there from I have no idea what because I tossed the packaging long ago, the tag is 7gypsies, the flair is American Crafts circal 2010, the cardstock lettering (done in Bazzill of course!) is a Kerri Bradford cutfile for the Silhouette, ribbon is from my ribbon stash bin.
The pictures were all taken on one of my last days at Green Valley Ranch Resort in Henderson LV at the end of Inspiration Unlimited last September. It was the perfect way to end the whirlwind trip lounging by their amazing pool – starting with breakfast and on into the afternoon. For me, the ad inspired thoughts of escape – fun – relaxation. So these were the pictures I chose to work with it – a fun event, a great escape, and some much needed relaxation! Thank you to the great crew over at Use Your Stuff for this fun and inspiring challenge. I look forward to playing along with many more!
And in the spirit of scrapbooking stash, I know many of my friends can relate to this video. I sure did!
Have a great week everybody!
I’ve apparently been a member of Two Peas In A Bucket for almost 7 years. For the benefit of my non-scrapbooking readers, 2Peas is a scrapbooking site with a very active message board, galleries to share work, an online store to shop, online classes, etc. I joined for the message board after lurking for a while. When I went to CKU Nashville in the summer of 2007 I even went to a 2Peas dinner organized by a fellow “pea”. Time passed and I had a bit of a personal falling out with 2Peas. I found it got really catty and negative for a while and it wasn’t a place I enjoyed going to anymore. I also *never* posted my work because I really didn’t think it was anywhere near as good or inspiring as what everyone else was doing.
Recently I started going back and mostly lurking, and commenting on occasion. It was good to keep up with industry trends as I don’t have the benefit of in store shopping like I used to have back in the day. So many of my favourite stores have closed up shop, some have gone online only, some only offer a very limited selection, and some are just too far to travel to with any regularity. Needless to say, keeping current hasn’t been easy. It also hasn’t been overly necessary given the size of my stash (a post is in the works about my space thanks to some 2Peas inspiration of late).
This week was CHA Summer week – the week when all the manufacturers showcase what they’ll be releasing for the next 6 months. 2Peas was hosting a social event to celebrate, as well as several other challenges to earn “badges” or other product prizes. Since I was home I was able to take part; and I still have a few challenges left to complete. I’m also super excited to report I won one of the message board challenges! So fun!
Here’s the link to the 10 layout challenges: http://twopeasinabucket.typepad.com/two-peas-in-a-bucket/2013/07/cha-summer-social-2013-challenges.html And, for the first time in my 6 year history on 2Peas, I’ve posted some layouts. Here’s what I’ve done for some of the challenges so far (and you could combine challenges so I have for 2 of the layouts so far):
I’m continuing to play along with the ScrapMuch? Sketchy Friday sketches. I’m beyond envious the ScrapMuch? ladies were just in Vegas for CHA Summer (It will ALWAYS be CHA Summer to me). One year I will get to go to CHA… I digress…
Without further adieu, here is this week’s sketch:
And in keeping with football Friday theme, here is my take on this week’s sketch:
Lil miss overflowing stash is at it again. CS, floss and chipboard heart are Bazzill; PP, banners, medallion, wood brad, denim brad, tags, wood elements, photogram are all Pink Paislee; flowers are both Prima and Fancy Pants; heart is painted with acrylic paint by Ranger in Denim. I have no idea who makes the washi as I picked it up from a bulk bin.
Not sure what on earth has happened to July, but it’s flown by and I’m in firm denial that summer is half over.
Here is the week 4 sketch from the Let’s Get Sketchy crew:
And here is my take on the sketch:
In honour of Patriots training camp opening today, I figured it was fitting to scrapbook something football related. The paper is all from Pink Paislee Declaration, washi tape is My Mind’s Eye, rhinestone flourishes are Me and My Big Ideas, tickets are by Tim Holtz, helmet sticker is by EK Success NFL line (no longer in production!).
Evidently I’m tackling some challenges out of order… BUT… I’m using up ye olde stash and having fun (which is truly what matters most).
So, here I am with another Let’s Get Sketchy challenge. I’m drawing a lot of inspiration from these sketches, and the people are sooo nice and friendly! I will be returning the blog love soon! Without further adieu here is the sketch from LGS for July Week 1:
And here is my take on the sketch (that I also managed to use for some 2Peas challenges this week too! Yay!):
The photo was taken from the couples massage palapa on the pier out front of Isla Mujeres Palace. It was absolutely amazing to listen to the soft waves and feel the gentle breeze while getting my massage. Definitely a highlight of an amazing trip.
