"Sense"-ational Sundays

Welcome to this week’s installment of “Sense”-ational Sundays. I’ve spent a great weekend off with Steve – and it feels like the most amount of time we’ve spent together in a very long time. It was just really nice to relax, not have too much on the go, and relax together. Night shifts are over, and I’m back on for days for the next 2 weeks.

I see…
The worst case scenario I could have ever imagined. 😦 I was excited to sit down and watch the first Sunday of regular season football. Sadly, it seems my remaining Sundays will be spent without Mr. Yummy 😦 Maybe this will be incentive for him to ditch his jinx of a horrible gf. Thankfully Cassel got the win, but it’s not something I would ever be willing to bank on.

I hear…
Upsetting reports this is an ACL tear and Tom will be out for the rest of the year. Dreadfully unimpressed. Have I mentioned he should take this as an omen to ditch his paparazzi seeking gf? He played better football without her.

I taste…

Far too much unhealthy food for one weekend. I had to cancel the Epicure party – can’t really elaborate and best I just leave it at that. Mom still came over and we sampled the dips and other things that I did have on hand, but unhealthy dinners out on Friday and Saturday lead to Sunday and remainder of the week detoxing. OH! I also taste YUMMY IHOP stuffed french toast. I had to zip across the border after work on Friday morning and it was all too convenient to kill some time over a delicious IHOP breakfast. All I can say is I’m really glad we don’t have an IHOP this side of the border

I touch…
Far too much US cash. The purpose of my trip was to go snag US cash to buy our anniversary vacation for this year. Friday night we happily delivered the cash, and we will be going to the Mayan Riviera for our anniversary this year. We’ll also be going to this resort as “members”, so I am looking forward to finding out first hand if they really do treat their members better, and if that is the case I will be very serious about getting a membership of our own.

I smell…
Laundry. Sunday night, back to work, making sure everything is ready for both of us to go back and face the week – which always involves the need for clean clothes…

Mission Accomplished!

So, I got home very early this morning thanks to some unexpected early relief at work. My XM was glued to CNN listening to all the Gustav goings on for the whole drive home. I even missed out on listening to Jean Chatzky on Oprah (my fav!) just to get hurricane updates. So, I got home, freed a trapped Matisse, and settled into bed with a piece of toast and Cheez-Whiz light and CNN now on the TV. I fell asleep to the news and missed the bulk of Gustav’s landfall because Steve woke me up at around 1:20, close to 4 hours after the big event. The good news is the levees seem to be holding and Gustav is weakening and it so far doesn’t seem to be as devastating as Katrina was. I’ve really enjoyed the footage CNN has provided and think it would be fun as heck to be a storm chaser. Though, I’m not sure I’d be happy if a hurricane interrupted our Mayan vacation, but it is a risk we are taking.

We’ll be having a late lunch – I have made my black bean veggie chili with the Epicure chipotle chili seasoning. I’m now wishing we had some fresh cheese buns to have with it – and am seriously contemplating a trip to the Apple Factory to get some. But, I am going to resist, as I’m sure they are well over 500 calories each of bad white carbs.

Otherwise I think it’s going to be a mostly lazy day. I’m getting my laundry done, and I can’t wait to climb in to fresh washed sheets tonight in bed. 🙂 No cut and paste so far for me today, spending the day on the couch with Steve – him reading, me laptopping and CNNing is a far better way to spend a bonus day together. I think fish is on the menu for dinner tonight, but think BBQ steak and potatoes and perhaps a skewer of scallops or shrimp would be far more fitting for the last long weekend of the summer. Mustn’t forget a cocktail or 2, or huge glass of red wine to go with that dinner! 😉 The next long weekend we’ll be enjoying Mexican turkey on the Mayan coast! That will definitely have a cocktail or 2 and wine with it. I seriously can’t wait!!
